As the pages of a book are turned, a child's world is broadened. Literature is valuable for many reasons, it sparks children's creativity and imagination, introduces them to new places, people and ideas and builds their vocabulary.
We at Nelson's International School celebrated our 'Book Week' to encourage all our students (and teachers!) to read books.
Day 1: Started with a bookmark competition where all students made bookmarks & awards were given for the best bookmarks.
Day 2: Famous author & artist Esther David was invited as a guest to our school where she read a few passages from her book "My Father's Zoo" and held some question-answer sessions where students got a chance to interact with her.
Writing workshops were set up with Esther David for the students of 7th, 8th and 9th Std which gave students the opportunity to discuss good tips on how to write, and the writing process.
Day 3: Started with poem recitation by our teachers - all teachers recited their favourite poem in front of students. Students were also given the opportunity to write one story on their own as per the guidelines given by the teachers.
Day 4: Students were given ideas about different forms of poetry like "Haiku". They were encouraged to write their own haikus, and our students prepared a 'Poet-tree'. Students wrote their haikus on different leaves and attached them to the poet-tree.
Day 5: Before the beginning of our book week our teachers selected their favourite book. During the book week students were given clues everyday and they had to guess each teacher's favourite book. Photograph of teachers along with book clues were displayed in our library.
Day 6: All students and children came in fancy dress of their favourite book character on the last day of book week. Students also gave clues of their own characters and other students had to guess the name of the character. Prizes were given to students for best characters.
